Chow Chefs
From the moment we, (Rob and Jamie) met in high school two decades ago, we have shared an incredible passion for food. Legend has it that Jamie won Rob’s heart with her killer chocolate chip cookies. We have passed on this passion to our two children who eagerly discuss their dinner preferences at the breakfast table.
Imagine our surprise when we, self proclaimed “foodies,” began to dread our daily lunch prep routine. In our case, we’ve had to prepare two separate lunches to suit our kids’ differing palates and shopped a few times a week for fresh lunch items. We knew that many of our friends shared our sentiments and wondered if we could hire someone to help us out.
That is how we arrived at the idea for Kid Chow. We began researching the San Francisco school lunch market and discovered that many private schools did not have a cafeteria or alternative lunch option. As well, we found caterers who provided only one daily menu option, adult entrees not tailored to kids’ tastes or unhealthy kid menu fare.
It was evident that there was nothing available in the marketplace that would satisfy our lunch box critics or us. We soon realized we were the perfect candidates to prepare healthy, fun, kid friendly menus for kids. We already packed our kids’ lunches with dinosaur egg salad, peanut butter sushi sandwiches, heart shaped cheeses and tropical fruit kebabs. Convinced that San Francisco families needed a healthy, kid-friendly school lunch service, we left our professional careers to start Kid Chow.
We spent numerous hours researching fun, healthy foods for kids. Our nutritionist, Emily, helped us select recipes and balance our menus. Our resident experts sampled our kid concoctions. Our web designers created a web site that makes lunch ordering quick and easy. A crew of dedicated pilot families helped us launch Kid Chow at our son’s school in the fall of 2003.
Our mission is simple: to provide affordable, kid-friendly bag lunches packed with nutritious foods to Bay Area school children. We consider it a privilege to serve your family. We look forward to feeding your kids fun, healthy food and providing you a convenient alternative to your daily lunch prep routine.
